The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board,(NCDMB) Mr. Simbi Wabot said on 12 December 2018, that the NCDMB, in partnership with stakeholders in the oil and gas industry have developed a profile of the types of vessels that are set to be in demand in the next five years in the Oil and Gas Industry. He said this while speaking at the Ship Owners Association of Nigeria annual Workshop and Dinner. The theme of this year’s workshop was “The Nigerian Maritime Industry: Galvanizing Stakeholders Engagement for Sustainable Growth”.
According to the Executive Secretary, the NCDMB has been gathering data from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the Nigerian Petroleum Investment Management Services and this exercise has revealed that the top vessels that will be in demand in the next five years are tugboats, security vessels, guiding support vessels, jargon barges and crew boats, among others. He stated further that these vessels will account for 66% percent of the vessel requirements in the sector, , while accommodation vessels, supply vessels and anchor handing vessels will only account for 23% of the industry’s demand.
