Biography

Over his 30 year career, Afolabi has garnered experience in corporate and commercial transactions particularly in relation to advising on foreign investment and joint ventures, private equity investments, international mergers & acquisitions, infrastructure projects particularly in the ports and telecoms sectors, anti-corruption and compliance due diligence and advisory, media, sports and entertainment law and arbitration. Afolabi is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and routinely advises on structuring investments to benefit from bilateral investment treaty protection.

Having graduated from the University of London in 1983, Afolabi was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1985.

Afolabi is a member of the following organisations:

• The Nigerian Bar Association;

• The International Bar Association;

• The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Nigeria;

• The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK.

• Contributor of the Nigerian segment in a guidebook prepared by Norton Rose in May 2007 titled “Arbitration in Africa – A reference manual for anyone concerned with dispute resolution”.

• Interviewed by the Banker Magazine on developments in Nigeria’s Capital Market and Contributor to the magazine’s April 2012 edition on “Nigeria’s $100 billion stock market ambition” and June 2012 edition on “Nigeria targets building Africa’s dominant IFC”.

• Joint contributor to a Euromoney publication titled "Investing in Emerging and Frontier Markets" in July 2013.
